It’s been a while since I am actively writing in this blog.Wishing a happy Eid-ul-fitr to all muslim friends and readers.

What is Eid-ul-fitr :-

   Eid-ul-fitr is the festival that marks the end of the month of Ramadan. It is the Islamic month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word which means festivity and Fitr means “to break the break,” therefore it marks the breaking of the fast and staying away from all the evil habits.

    The exact date of Eid ul Fitr is not fixed and varies as it depends on the sighting of the moon. Muslims consult with mosques and read Quran for the sighting of the moon. Eid ul Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, which is the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, following the month of Ramadan.

     Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated after the end of Ramadan. On this day celebration, new moon is sighted and Muslims wear new clothes, cook delicacies and visit their loved ones to greet them, with gifts and sweets. The celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr last in three days and is called “The Small Eid.” On this day, Muslim family wakes up early in the morning and pray Almighty Allah to seek his blessings. Mens of the family go to attend special prayers being held in Mosque, stadiums, arenas or vast grounds. The prayer is soon followed by the sermon.

     Eid ul-Fitr is an auspicious day with important religious significance. It celebrates the virtues of forgiveness, moral victory, peace, brotherhood and unity. Devotees who go on for fasting in the month of Ramadan feels the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.

    Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr by breaking their fast at the end of Ramadan. Worshipers thank God for all the prosperity and strength that has been conferred in their life. It is a time of giving and sharing. Muslims celebrate not only the end of fasting but also thank God for the self control and strength that is believed to be embraced by the God. Many believes that fasts gives the power of spiritual realm. People wishes Blessed Eid or Happy Eid (Eid Mubarak) to their friends. After the finishing of their fast, Muslims recite Takbir.

    Festivities of the day take place with families visiting homes of their relatives, friends and associates. On this day family members from children to adults, hugs each other and spread the spirit of mirth and joy around. Eid is a family event and families visit each other houses and greet them with wishes, gifts and compliments. People give special charity to poor and it is called Zakat. First time Eid for the new born baby in the family and new-weds is very special and is celebrated with special gathering is organized by the family members.

    As Eid ul Fitr approaches, markets are seen adorned with unique Eid ul Fitr gifts and Eid ul Fitr Cards. There are bright and splendid Eid ul Fitr card with warm wishes can be easily picked from the countless varieties to be presented to near and dear ones.
