Sooner I will need to change the tires and now I’m bored. So this is what happens when bored people playing with photoshop.

A friend of mine offered me the rims. The name was “Watanabe RS-8 two pieces“. Well it’s not much a good looking rims. It’s an old school rims where many Toyota or drift lovers use on their cars. The rim was made from magnesium therefore the weight is very light. Although not as lightweight as Volk racing TE37 or CE28N or SSR rims, the watanabe is weighted about 4.2 kg each. Heres a link to a rims weight table from miata’s website. The figures there is different anyway but watanabe was one of the lightest rims listed.

Lightweight rims is useful when it comes to comfort. It reduces unsprung weight. The components that comprise a vehicle’s unsprung weight are acted on by road shocks and bumps, and therefore the unsprung weight determines the reactive force that any motion of the wheels and suspension exert on the body of vehicle. The smoothness of the ride is closely related to the ratio of unsprung to sprung weight: the higher this ratio, the more severely bumps affect the vehicle. in other words, the lighter the rims, the smoother ride, more pickup and suppose to be better fuel consumption. Thats why Japanese rims are expensive.

The “two-pieces” means that you can open the rim front-side using the L-wrench and suppose to be able to adjust the offset if needed. Thats sounds useful. ;p

I’ll be changing the tires soon and planned to buy the rims from him. What do you think?
